Former General Motors CEO Whitacre talks about his time at the automaker in his new book

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Former General Motors CEO Ed Whitacre has penned a new book, and i=I had a chance to talk to the man credited for bringing GM back for the brink of bankruptcy.
Whitacre's book "American Turnaround: Re-Inventing AT&T and GM and the Way We Do Business in the USA" is out today.
The former CEO tells me he would do it all over again and do nothing differently when asked by President Obama to chart the course for the Setroit automaker to come of bankruptcy with federal help.
In his book Whitacre says current CEO Dan Akerson wasn't a fan of GM, but here's his opinion on how the CEO is doing now.
"Well, I think he's done a great job," Whitacre says. "I think the results speak for themselves and, you know, nobody was hot on GM cars at the time, but he's obviously become a big fan. I think just look at the results, they say a lot. He's done a great job."
Whitacre admits as a new CEO he bungled his way through his first Detroit auto show, but says it turned out okay because the city has great people to work with.
