Molly Diemer was playing tennis a couple years ago when the tumbler she had personalized caught the eye of some fellow players.
"Four other ladies came up to me and just loved the tumbler and asked where I got it from, and by the time I left, I had four orders from them," Molly explains. "I called my husband, who was at the office, and said 'I think I just started a business.'"
She would go on to call itMonograms by Molly. She personalizes dozens of products, from jewelry to jewelry trays, from soap dispensers to spirit bells, and cupcake carriers to candle holders.
"There's all different kind of monogram styles," she says. "Some people like more of a script style, others like classic and preppy."
Molly does the monogram work on a computer and then prints them out, and applies them to the different products she offers. She says the best part is that she gets to do all of it at home, with her two young boys close by.
"They really understand that it's special that I'm able to work out of our home in my craft area, which is right next to their playroom area, so I can really do the things I want to do as a stay-at-home mom, but also pursue something that's a dream for me."
Her marketing plan is mostly word of mouth and social media. She hopes to grow the business when both her boys are in school full-time, but for now, she's turning a nice profit.
"I wasn't sure how this was going to work out and lay out for my life, but I had the fortune in 2015 of being able to actually pay off one of my student loans, and that was a really big accomplishment for me. It was a really good sign that things were moving in the right direction and this is what I should be doing.
