Shoppers facing bizarre shortages amid coronavirus pandemic

Have you tried to find a thermometer in the stores lately? Or some yeast for baking bread?

Shoppers are facing some bizarre shortages right now.

First it was hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes back in February. Then in March came the face masks.

Then beef, chicken, and – of course – toilet paper.

Now, other things are running low!

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, it’s almost impossible to find an inexpensive bicycle.

"Basically some cities are completely out of bikes."

Add to the list:

  • Yeast for baking,
  • Gamer headsets,
  • Thermometers,
  • Fitness equipment, especially free weights.

Plus, the sudden shortage of any medicine named as a possible COVID-19 treatment.

Among them:

  • Hydroxychoroquine,
  • Pepcid for heartburn,
  • Even vitamin C in some areas.

For people who really need that medicine, a sudden shortage leaves them unable to find it, which is, of course, more than just an inconvenience.

Economists say only when shopping habits get back to near-normal will those spot shortages truly end.
