The "Summer 16" Youth Employment Program in Washtenaw County aims to give young people an opportunity to learn new skills and get their foot into the door.

It's for those who are 16-to-24 who are willing to work at participating businesses for 11 weeks this summer in a job that's 20-hours a week and pays $9.00 an hour.

Those committed to the program also must take part in a work-readiness training program in April and May.

The employment and mentorship period will run from June 20th to September 2nd.

The program is being put on by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, Michigan Works!, and the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti Regional Chamber of Commerce.

They're still looking for businesses to take part, and they're already accepting applications from young people.
