The 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday with the green flag set for 12:19 p.m. According to our sister station, WRTV, rain is in the forecast for race day.

"Forecast models show central Indiana drying out Sunday morning. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be possible as temps warm during the afternoon hours in the middle 70s," WRTV reports.

If the race cannot run on Sunday, it will most likely be on Monday, and would be the first postponement in 20 years.

According to Indy Motor Speedway, the last time an Indy 500 was postponed was in 1997. It was scheduled for Monday, but more rain forced a stoppage after just 15 laps and it was actually completed on Tuesday, May 27.

Other complete postponements were in 1915 and 1986. Both the 1967 and 1973 races were partially postponed and eventually completed.

The last time rain affected the race was in 2007 when rain stopped the race twice. It was declared over when the second round of rain came through after running 415 of the 500 miles.

You can watch the race on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. on Channel 7!
