UPDATE: 4:30 a.m.:
Police in Berkley say all lanes have reopened at Woodward Avenue and 12 Mile Road following repairs to a gas main.
UPDATE 9:35 p.m.:
The gas main leak has been stopped, according to a release from the Berkley Department of Public Safety Tuesday evening.
There is no longer any gas escaping. However, Consumers Energy is still on the scene working on the repair and will remain there over night.
According to the release, "all roads are open, but there will be lane closures on southbound Woodward at 12 Mile and eastbound 12 Mile at Woodward."

A "major gas main break" has closed Woodward Ave. at 12 Mile in Berkley, and repairs are expected to take several hours.
The immediate area has been evacuated. Motorists have also been asked to avoid the area until repairs are complete. The break happened around 3:30 p.m.
Businesses at the strip mall on the southeast corner of 12 Mile and Woodward are closed, as well as the gas station.
Consumers Energy said a 6-inch steel gas main was hit by a contractor doing underground boaring work. It's expected to go throughout the night.
The Oakland County Hazardous Materials Team is on the scene and are monitoring the air. According to Berkley Police, there is no hazard at this time, other than in the immediate area, which has been evacuated.
Eastbound traffic on 12 Mile is being diverted into a neighborhood and westbound is being directed onto northbound Woodward.
