Police are searching for a suspect in a deadly double shooting Monday morning on Detroit's West side.

The suspect is described as a fair complected male wearing a black hoodie, dark jeans and white sneakers

Police say he walked up to a red Dodge Durango parked at Spotlight Liquor on McNichols near Telegraph, and started shooting. It was around 12:30 in the morning.

The barrage of bullets left about a dozen holes in the passenger side window and door of the SUV, killing a 26-year-old man sitting inside.

Childhood friend Lawanda Holmes says his name is Carl.

"He's not a bad guy, he's not at bad guy at all," says Holmes.

She tells 7 Action News that Carl has a big family, lots of siblings, one of whom was also killed by gunfire, and had kids of his own.

"He always has his kids, he's a good father," she says.

In the drivers seat of the Durango sat a 40-year-old man known in the neighborhood as “J”. Police say he suffered multiple gun shot wounds but is expected to survive.

Holmes says "J" uses a wheel chair and had been trying to get his life on track.

As police collected evidence from the violent scene, an emotional group of people including family and friends gathered at the crime scene tape, sometimes shouting at police.

It's a pain and frustration that has become all too familiar for Holmes.

"All these senseless shootings, kids getting hurt, good fathers, innocent people are getting hurt. I got shot last year, in the head. Thank God I'm here. Senseless shootings," she says.

"I'm praying for their family, I'm keeping them in my prayers," says Holmes.
