Eighteen vehicles were involved in a crash on the Lodge during the Tuesday morning commute.

It happened after 10:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Lodge near Meyers Rd.

Michigan State Police responded to the crash. Troopers confirm there were no serious injuries and road conditions contributed to the chain reaction crash.

Barry Foster, the operations manager for L.I.J.B.S. Towing, also responded to the scene.

His company towed 12 of the 18 cars involved.

Foster said he often sees crashes in that area of the Lodge.

"That's a pretty dangerous area that we notice on the Lodge freeway, there's a lot of crashes that because the sun is glaring down in everyone's face,” said Foster.

The wet roads made the glare even worse on Tuesday morning.

Foster said the Lodge was blocked off for nearly two hours while his crews worked to help clear the scene.

"That's the most efficient way to do it, when you've got a big pileup like that, shut the freeway down,” said Foster.

Even if it makes for impatient drivers.

"You've got motorists out there, they're honking their horns, they're angry, ready to get somewhere,” said Foster

The big message, in order to avoid another pileup, drive with care.

"Everybody just be mindful, be careful, drive slow, slow it down, especially when you see flashing lights on the freeway, move over to the next lane and give us our space,” said Foster.

Road conditions are expected to dicey again on Wednesday morning due to winter weather conditions moving in through the overnight hours.
