(WXYZ) — Time has run out for the winner of a $1 million Powerball ticket after the open window to claim the prize money expired Thursday.

The winner of the Powerball prize had until 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 to claim their winnings. Now the prize money will go to the State School Aid Fund.

Winners have exactly one year to claim prize money. If not, the winnings are forfeited.

According to lottery officials, this is the third $1 million prize to go unclaimed in 2019. The record for unclaimed lottery prize in Michigan was set in 1998 with a $34 mmillion prize that no one claimed – ouch!

The most recent winning ticket was purchased at Speedway gas station, 10070 Highland Road in Hartland.
