WARREN, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say two police officers are on paid administrative leave after a man was shot and wounded in a suburban Detroit home.

Warren police say officers responded Wednesday to a 911 call about a man with a gun in the home. Police found him on the basement stairs and they say he was intoxicated and threatened police with a gun. Police Commissioner William Dwyer says the man also was believed to have been suicidal.

According to preliminary information, Dwyer says the man pointed a gun at officers and the officers shot at him. The man was expected to survive. The officers weren't hurt.

The shooting is under investigation, but Dwyer says it appears that the officers followed proper procedure and "could possibly have been killed themselves."
