DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police are investigating after two people died on the Lodge Freeway Sunday evening.

Officials say that around 7:55 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the southbound Lodge near Chicago for a traffic crash. A two-car crash had occurred with one vehicle blocking the left lane and one on the right shoulder.

The occupants of the vehicle in the left lane exited and were standing by their vehicle on the freeway. The driver of a passenger vehicle was southbound in the left lane and struck the previous vehicle and both of the passengers from the previous crash.

Police say both occupants were killed instantly and that alcohol is suspected in the secondary crash.
