DETROIT, MI (WXYZ) — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with one count of Careless Discharge of a Firearm Causing Injury in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his 2-year-old brother.
On Thursday, the 2-year-old was rushed to the Children's Hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the head.
Police say the incident took place on Alameda Street just south of 8 Mile and West of John R. Road.
They say the toddler found the gun on a bed.
Following the shooting, the 16-year-old left the scene with the gun.
Police say the parents heard gunshots and then found their baby next to the gun bleeding
The child is in stable condition per police and they think it was just a graze.
A Preliminary Hearing will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at the Juvenile Detention Facility before Referee Leslie Graves.
