Today is a special day for babies born in Detroit. March 13 represents" 3-1-3," the city's area code.

Babies born today at DMC Harper-Hutzel and DMC Sinai-Grace hospitals are showing off their Detroit pride.

"Mom's love it," said Christine Bowen, the Chief Nurse Executive at DMC Harper University Hutzel Women's Hospital. "Today is 313 Day and along with the renaissance of the city of Detroit, the babies being born are given a little different dimension."

That's why they are getting onesies from Pure Detroit.

Dan Brennan of Pure Detroit said, "Light blue and pink onesies and they say 'Born in the 313' on them."

On average, 130 babies are born a week at DMC Harper-Hutzel.

"Celebrate the birth and growth of new things that happen in the city of Detroit," he added. "So, it just makes sense."

Pure Detroit has teamed up with both hospitals on March 13 for the past five years.

"It's kind of exciting. Detroit, I love Detroit," said Kimberly Browning.

She is one of the first mom's ready to give birth to a 313 baby. Her son will being born a couple of weeks early, but in time to celebrate the D!

"Be his first little gift as he comes into the world," she said.

Brennan added, "The reaction has been great. The mom's of course are very excited for their big day and to be able to receive gifts and understand that they are not just having a baby, that they are actually giving birth to the next generation of Detroiters means a lot to them and it means a lot to us as well."

Last year, both hospitals had a total of 20 babies born on March 13th.
