It was an emotional day and exciting day in Southfield for 37 new American citizens from 22 counties.
On Thursday, they gathered with family and friends for a naturalization ceremony. For some, their citizenship is now something they can share with their children, who were born here.
Anastasia came from Russia 17 years ago, and said she is thrilled about all that comes with the new honor.
Justina is from Poland and has lived in the U.S. for 15 years.
The celebration of diversity continues all weekend at Southfield's International Festival.
