DETROIT (WXYZ) — Four people have been arrested Thursday during an investigation of improper plates. The suspects allegedly fired shots at Detroit police officers.

According to police, around 9 p.m., an undercover car from the DPD's Commercial Auto Theft Section was investigating a white Dodge Charger with improper plates, and a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. During the investigation, occupants from both vehicles began firing multiple shots at officers with assault rifles. They then fled the location.

Officers were able to locate the suspects' vehicles near the 15800 block of Robson. There was a brief barricaded gunman situation before the four suspects were arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
