5 rescued from apartment fire in Mount Clemens

MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Mount Clemens Firefighters rescued five residents from an apartment complex Sunday morning after a fire started in a kitchen inside one of the apartments.

According to fire officials, firefighters were dispatched at 3:30 a.m. to an apartment complex on Hubbard Avenue. When they arrived, multiple residents were hanging out of a window because they were unable to escape.

Using ground ladders, firefighters were able to save four of the five residents immediately. A fifth resident had to shelter in place until conditions in the building improved and firefighters were able to reach them.

The fire was contained to a single apartment. There was significant smoke damage to the 12-unit apartment building.

Four of the residents were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Assisting the Mount Clemens Fire Department were several agencies including, HarrisonTownship Firefighters Local 1737, Firefighters for a Better Clinton Township, Chesterfield Firefighters Local 4011 and Medstar Ambulance.
