ONTARIO, CANADA (WXYZ) — A 52-year-old resident of Canada was arrested at the Blue Water Bridge for allegedly being in possession of 50 bricks of suspected cocaine, officials said.

On Nov. 18, the Markham, Ontario resident was driving a tractor trailer when he arrived at the Blue Water Bridge Commercial Operations in Point Edward, Ontario.

During an inspection, border officers noticed an inconsistency in the weight of some of the boxes inside the trailer. When the boxes were examined, 50 packages of suspected cocaine weighing approximately 50 kilograms were found.

Officers with the Canada Border Services Agency arrested 52-year-old Guo Bing Zhao.

“We are proud of our officers at the front line who work tirelessly to protect Canadians and keep drugs out of our communities," said Tom Rankin, district director with St. Clair District Operations, Canada Border Services Agency. "This seizure is another example of the ongoing cooperation that exists between the CBSA and the RCMP.”

Zhao is now charged with importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
