EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office is preparing to charge seven people with making fake claims totaling more than $500,000 in relation to the MSU Healing Assistance Fund.
According to the MSU Police Department, they received a tip about alleged fraudulent reimbursements from the fund in the fall of 2018. After reviewing the invoices, they were found to be fraudulent in nature.
Police say that the claims added up to $527,000 that was paid out, and the unpaid claim amounts to over $52,000.
In February, the university's board of trustees directed MSU to re-establish a fund that will help support counseling and mental health services for survivors of Larry Nassar. It is similar to the original healing assistance fund.
It is available to survivors who received treatment from Nassar at an MSU heatlh clinic, survivors who received his treatment as MSU student-athletes, and parents of survivors who received treatment from Nassar at an MSU health clinic or as a student athlete.
