8-year-old boy in critical condition after mini bike, car collision in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police are investigating these accidents that happened in the city of Detroit overnight.

Here is the preliminary information from the Detroit Police Department:

Fatal Accident on W. 7 Mile Road & Gilchrist

On May 2 around 4:05 a.m., a male driver was operating a 2002 Dodge Caravan and traveling west on 7 Mile Road when he rear-ended a parked semi tractor trailer truck, causing critical injuries to himself and fatally wounding his 24-year-old male passenger.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated, police say.

Critical Accident on 17900 Block of Woodward

On May 1 around 5:15 p.m. in the 17900 block of Woodward, the driver of a black Cadillac was traveling north on Woodward, when an 8-year old boy on a mini-bike rode into the crosswalk against the red traffic signal, causing a collision.

The child was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police say the circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated.
