DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A student who made a school shooting threat at a high school in Dearborn Heights has been "removed," according to a Facebook post from District 7 Schools.
The Annapolis High student was accused of threatening to carry out a school shooting Friday. Students who overheard the threat reported it to administrators, who with the Dearborn Heights School Resource police officer began an investigation.
It was during questioning that the student admitted to making the threat and claimed it was a joke. According to District 7, the confirmed threat made by the student was turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. After completing the investigation, the case was released to the Dearborn Heights Police Department.
Administrators expressed sadness at Thursday's chain of events but praised students for how quickly they responded:
I'm so disheartened by this event. However, I am so proud of our students for handling this situation perfectly. Very little time passed from when the threat was made and when it was reported. Our students ensured the safety of everyone in the building by reporting the threat immediately.
School officials are urging parents to remind students that making school threats is not a joking matter.
