AAA and first responder organizations such as law enforcement, fire, emergency and towing services personnel are teaming up to highlight the importance of Michigan's Move Over law.

The event, called Move Over Michigan, will also highlight the risks that first responders are placed in on a regular basis when motorists don't exercise care and caution when passing.

The focus will be on increasing awareness that this law also applies to the thousands of tow trucks in Michigan.

Michigan's Move Over law requires motorists to move over for stationary emergency vehicles with their lights activated or slow down and pass with caution if it isn't possible to safely change lanes.

According to a 2014 statewide survey commissioned by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, nearly 80 percent of motorists are aware of Michigan's Move Over law and that it applies to police vehicles, fire trucks and ambulances. Only 60 percent know the law also applies to tow trucks.
