Construction on 3.1 miles of Interstate 75 in Oakland County resumed Monday for the 2017 season, and it’s going to slow you down.

This is all part the 16-year, I-75 modernization project that will reconstruct 18 miles of I-75; replace 47 bridges; and create a HOV lane.

Right now, we’re still in the first phase, which is expected to take two years and cost $90 million -- and a lot of frayed nerves.

Closures you need to know about right now:

  • I-75 between M-59 and Coolidge Highway will be down to two lanes during peak travel times and one lane overnight.
  • The ramp from northbound I-75 to Square Lake Road will be closed. The posted detour sends northbound I-75 to University Drive to SB I-75 back Square Lake Ro
  • The ramp from Square Lake Road (EB I-75 BL) to northbound I-75 will be closed. The posted detour directs traffic traveling from eastbound Square Lake to northbound I-75 to Opdyke Road north to M-59 east to I-75 north.
  • Woodward traffic traveling to northbound I-75 via Square Lake is directed to continue north on M-1 to M-59 eastbound to I-75 north.
  • Two lanes of eastbound Square Lake Road (I-75 BL) will be closed from M-1 to I-75.
  • Eastbound M-59 ramp to southbound I-75 will be closed from May through September 2017.
