Good news for travelers heading up north for Labor Day weekend, all lanes of I-75 in Oakland County will reopen as part of the Modernize I-75 project.

According to MDOT, all lanes and ramps on northbound I-75 from Coolidge Highway to South Blvd. in Oakland County will reopen on Friday. The southbound lanes were opened Thursday morning.

The opening comes 20 days ahead of schedule.

Construction on the 3.1 mile stretch began in May and is part of the 16-year, I-75 modernization project that will reconstruct 18 miles of I-75, replace 47 bridges and create an HOV lane.

As part of the recent construction, MDOT realigned left lane ramps to and from northbound I-75 at the Square Lake interchange to safer right lane exits and entrances.

After Labor Day weekend, crews will work on expanding and improving the Adams Rd. carpool lot and install permanent lane markings. Those dates haven't been determined, but the lane markings will happen during non-peak hours on a weekend.
