Police say the trooper attempted to use his baton to break the passenger side window out. Due to the window tint on the front windows, he had to use his hands to push the window in and was then able to pull the driver from the truck.
The driver was treated for low blood sugar.
The trooper sustained cuts to both of his arms and hands and was also treated at the scene. The fire was caused by the driver having his foot on the gas, causing the tires to catch fire.
Fire department putting put out the fire now. No word yet on how long the freeway will remain closed. @wxyzdetroit https://t.co/tNC1gOSun1 pic.twitter.com/bSIFMJHgpI
