Woman charged with drunk driving, 2nd-degree murder in Cranbrook coach's death

(WXYZ) — A Huntington Woods woman has been charged in the death of a Cranbrook football coach.

Wendy Bass is charged with second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death.

The charges are in relation to an August crash that took the life of a beloved beloved head football coach, Ben Jones.

Bass was arraigned in 45th District Court on Thursday, and given a $50,000 bond and an alcohol tether. Police say at the time of the crash, Bass had and alcohol blood level of 0.28. She was driving a 2020 Mercedes SUV when she hit Jones' Jeep Cherokee.

Bass was traveling at 40 mph at the time of the crash, investigators say.
