ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Al’s Famous Deli in Royal Oak, along with Bread Basket Deli’s throughout metro Detroit, is making it possible to bite into some of the best corned beef around.

Al’s and Bread Basket’s corned beef is still cooked fresh every three hours a day, and can be found in a little bit of everything on the menu.

“We also make corned beef egg rolls which has become a huge thing, we sell thousands a week,” said owner Al Winkler.

Winkler has been in the deli business since the 1960s. He tells 7 Action News all the business owners he knows are taking extra precautions.

“Everyone in the restaurant business really really works hard and they are not going to jeopardize their businesses you know they take extra care,” said Winkler.

Winkler says he is trying to make sure not only to keep customers safe, but employees that work for the deli as well.

“I put plexi glass up and closed my registers so my cashiers feel comfortable, there is no contact, there is a little slide in there for the money if they are using credit cards it is on the outside so the customer has no contact whatsoever,” said Winkler.

Orders can now be placed on their website for carryout, deliveries can be made through GrubHub, DoorDash and Restaurant Connection.

Al has also personally delivered meals to local hospitals and police departments, including Royal Oak Beaumont and the Royal Oak Police Department.

Hours have changed at all of the delis during the pandemic to Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon to 7 p.m.
