Amber Alert issued for missing 7-year-old girl

Michigan State Police have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 7-year-old girl from Hamburg Township.

Sapphire Elizabeth Palmer and her mother, 30-year-old Amanda Elizabeth Hayward, were last seen leaving their home in the area of Chilson Rd. and Bishop Lake Rd. around 3 a.m. on May 10.

Police are also looking for 64-year-old Douglas Stanko as a suspect in the incident. He is described as an Asian man, 5-feet-8-inches tall weighing 169 pounds. He has black hair.

Police are looking for a 2001 red Ford Escape with license plate 2HVA18. 

According to police, Sapphire is with her mother, and her mother may be suffering from an apparent mental episode. Police say she is delusional and may be armed with a 9mm handgun.

Stanko, according to police, is a registered sex offender, and both are believed to be with him.

Sapphire Palmer has long red hair and green eyes. She is 4-feet tall and weighs about 44 pounds. She was last seen wearing a purple nightgown.

Amanda Hayward has long strawberry blond hair and blue eyes. She is 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds.

On Wednesday morning, Hayward's purse was found on the side of the road with credit cards and cash inside. Her car was also found in Ypsilanti.
