Authorities say an Amtrak train headed to Washington, D.C., has derailed in central Vermont. It isn't immediately clear whether there are any injuries.

Amtrak confirmed in a Twitter post Monday that the Vermonter train had derailed. According to the Amtrak website, the 13-hour, 45-minute daily trip begins in St. Albans in northern Vermont. The train is supposed to pass through Burlington, Vermont, Springfield, Massachusetts, and New York before arriving in D.C.

Vermont State Police and local fire and rescue agencies are responding to the scene in Northfield, about 10 miles southwest of Montpelier. Numerous emergency vehicles are at the scene.

State police spokesman Scott Waterman says he has no information about injuries.

Further information was not immediately available.
