An employee at the Michigan Animal Rescue League made a horrifying and heartbreaking discovery on Sunday morning in Pontiac.

After arriving to work, Magee Humes found a cardboard box left on the porch with seven dead puppies inside.

"Yeah seven," Humes said. "Seven of them, lined up and stacked inside the cardboard box."

Humes is the executive director of Michigan Animal Rescue League and she says their mission is to help animals first and foremost.

If pet owners are overwhelmed or can't afford medical treatment, the rescue league can help if the animals are brought to them during business hours, Humes said.

She says all too often, pets are left outside after hours to fend for themselves without a note or a phone call or any information on what's wrong, and the animals suffer.

"The more we know about the animals the quicker we are able to get them help," Humes said.

When it comes to puppies with medical problems, time is of the essence.

Surveillance cameras captured video of a man leaving the box on the porch after 10 p.m. Saturday night. The puppies remained on that porch, in the cold, all night long. By the time these seven multi-colored pups were found in the morning, it was too late.

Oakland County Animal control is looking into this case. They are trying to determine how the puppies died and they want to find the owners to find out exactly what happened.

If you know the man in the surveillance video or if you know of someone who recently had seven multi-colored mixed breed puppies, give Oakland County Animal Control or Oakland County Sheriff's Department a call.
