An announcement regarding the future of the North American International Auto Show will happen next month.

Max Muncey, a spokesperson for the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, said there will be an announcement on July 24 to talk about the new direction of the auto show. The date was announced during a meeting on Thursday morning.

Also in that meeting was a teaser video that is part of a larger video that will be played at the meeting. The video, which can be seen below, features what they say is a "reimagined" auto show in 2020 that includes interactive exhibits outside of Cobo Center and on the roof.

In March, Muncey confirmed that they were considering moving the date of the auto show from January to October.

"October is one of many opportunities we're exploring as part of keeping NAIAS a top sought-after show," he said in March.

Sources say the growth of technology and innovative mobility could become more interactive and demonstrative if outdoor space were available to be used. Sources also say there are discussions on how to expand the entire Auto Show experience to showcase more of the city and engage visitors in multiple ways.

Cobo Center released the following statement about the North American International Auto Show's future:

Cobo Center and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) have worked closely with the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on many changes over the years. We are continuing to work with NAIAS to accommodate any possible changes in the future. There is no conflict between DADA and Cobo Center on date changes for the show. With our recent $279 million renovation, we are confident that we can accommodate the requirements needed for outdoor exhibit spaces for an October show. We are proud to host the world-class NAIAS at Cobo Center, currently through 2025.

Several automakers have pulled out of the show for 2019, including Audi, Mercedes and BMW
