The Chance for Snow, Ice & Sleet
The metro Detroit area has been stuck in a deep freeze for the past 48 hours but now a warm up is on the way. The only problem is this warm up will bring us a chance of snow, ice and sleet for Tuesday evening. With such a cold ground in place, any wintry precipitation that we experience will likely freeze on contact until temperatures warm above freezing Wednesday morning.
The Timing & What to Expect
This storm is expected to impact the metro Detroit area during the Tuesday evening commute. Make sure you allow more time to get home if you'll be driving between the hours of 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. After midnight, temperatures at the surface and aloft will eventually warm above the freezing mark. This should change the storm to all rain by Wednesday morning and temps will briefly climb near 40 degrees by the afternoon.
Be sure to drive safely Tuesday night and look out for the threat of ice. More than likely a winter weather advisory will be in effect before the storm arrives.
