(WXYZ) — Beaumont Health announced Tuesday that a data breach has affected 6,000 patients. The hospital network was notified of the breach on July 28.

In response to the breach, Beaumont disabled accessed email accounts and required mandatory password resets. The hospital network is now working with an external cybersecurity company to address the incident. That investigation found that on June 5, 2020, one or more of the email accounts accessed between Jan. 3 and Jan. 29 contained identifiable personal and or protected health information.

"Our investigation was unable to determine definitively if any information was viewed or acquired by the unauthorized third party, and Beaumont has no knowledge of any misuse of data by any unauthorized individuals. Beaumont’s electronic medical record system was not impacted by this incident and remains secure. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are issuing notices to anyone whose information may have been contained in the accessed accounts," Beaumont said in a statement.

Certain patients' names, date of births, diagnosis, procedures, treatment locations, treatment types, prescription information and account numbers were compromised in the breach.

The breach included .3 percent of Beaumont's 2.3 million patients. Beaumont had another breach back in 2019.
