Beaumont Health is racing to open up urgent care centers throughout metro Detroit.

Beaumont, in partnership with the Altanta-based WellStreet Urgent Care, is looking to set up 30 facilities by the end of 2019.

According to staff, a few centers will open later this year and early next year. A list of locations has not yet been announced, but teams are scouting "high-traffic areas, near high volume emergency centers, large employers and commercially dense areas."

The care centers are expected to provide faster service at a more affordable cost for patients.

“More than 40 percent of consumers visiting an urgent care do not have a primary care physician. One of our key goals will be to connect these patients with primary care physicians affiliated with the Beaumont clinically integrated network,” Fox added.

Beaumont's medical system has nearly 2.3 million active patient records.

The urgent care centers will be to treat these medical issues:

  • cough, cold or sore throat
  • rashes or skin irritations
  • fever or flu-like symptoms
  • minor lacerations
  • minor orthopedic injuries
  • mild intestinal illnesses

Patients experiencing more serious illness should go to an emergency room.

Beaumont says will be able to book appointments online and visit are usually complete in less than 50 minutes.
