ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — Senator Bernie Sanders and Vice President Joe Biden are facing a moment of truth ahead of the Michigan primary on Tuesday.

Some political science professors on the campus of University of Michigan believe it's a make or break for Senator Sanders.

"I think they really see Michigan as critical," said political expert Jonathan Hanson.

Sanders is hosting a rally on U-M's campus Sunday with U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, after several stops across the state.

"I think she will mobilize the students around campus," Hanson said. "Statewide, I'm not sure if will have a significant impact."

The campaign event begins at 6 p.m. at The Diag.

Sanders won Michigan in his bid for president in 2016. However, Hanson believes Biden has the momentum going into Tuesday's election.

Biden has stops planned in Detroit and Grand Rapids on Monday.

"We have a lot of blue collar here, a lot of middle class voters that are critical swing voters," Hanson said. "The kind of people Trump was able to win over a lot in 2016 and the democrats want to get them back."
