(WXYZ) — The way we get our news, information, and entertainment is evolving every day. But one media group has been very deliberate about that change.

It’s purposefully giving black voices a platform to tell their stories from their perspective.

Though it may be delivered by black people, Andrea Isom tells us it is still meant for everyone.

“There wasn’t a space where African-Americans were being delivered news about our community, about our issues. The only time you saw us on the news was when something bad was happening. We weren’t being delivered information that could really impact our lives and make communities stronger,” says Tanita Myers, News Director for BIN.

So, Bob Pittman, the CEO of iHeart Media, and a team of professionals knew they needed to do something to change that. Something big. Something bold. And The Black Information Network, BIN, was born. It launched in June of 2020.

“It is so important for us to service the black community, so that we hear our voices and our stories, telling them from our perspective. And I think we’ve made some incredible strides with some incredible topics. Delivering a 24 hour, 7 days a week news service that is focused on our issues. I’m absolutely up to the moon when with how wonderful this project is going” says Myers.

The Black Information Network airs in cities across the country and Detroit is one of them.

“My hope is that everyone in Detroit will embrace us and will give us feedback. Because here’s the thing, we only work well when we hear from people. When people tell us, these are the things that are affecting us in our community, these are the things that are most important to us. We’re on in Detroit on WDFN 1130. I want you to listen, to turn it on. If you can’t turn in on your radio you can always ask Alexa”, says Myers.

BIN also has a podcast and you can explore more on the iHeart Radio app as well.
