A body was found "burned beyond recognition" on Detroit's east side Friday morning, according to Detroit police.

The Detroit Police Department and Detroit Fire Department responded around 9:45 a.m. to the 12500 block of Westphalia Street. That's near McNichols and Gratiot Ave. The garage at the location was on fire and was promptly extinguished.

Once the fire was extinguished, first responders discovered the burned body inside the vehicle, which was parked inside the garage. The body was unidentifiable.

This remains under investigation.
