CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Canton Police are investigating what they are calling a "suspicious situation" at a bus stop Thursday afternoon.

Around 3:40 p.m., a female Plymouth-Canton Community Schools student reported to her bus driver that an unidentified man was slowly following her in his vehicle as she walked away from the bus stop.

Police say the student quickly returned to the bus and then told the bus driver, who also said she saw the vehicle. The incident happened in the area of Crowndale and Overhill.

The student described the subject as a black man driving a tan 4-door car. Police were notified and arrived at the scene to begin the investigation, which is ongoing.

Police and school officials are encouraging parents to use this opportunity to discuss how to handle "stranger danger" with their children.
