A big cereal drive is helping to feed children while they're on summer break. Detroit Medical Center and Kroger are teaming up with Gleaners food bank to collect and distribute cereal and milk to kids in need. Click the video player to learn more about the program from the President & CEO of Children's Hospital

Children's Hospital of Michigan says the end of the school year can mean the end of a guaranteed meal for almost half of Detroit's kids.  In Southeast Michigan, more than 300,000 free or reduced fee breakfasts and lunches are served daily during the school year.

So The Children's Hospital of Michigan Professional Nurse Council at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) has been holding a cereal drive. It's a community effort to provide area children with a consistent daily meal over summer recess.   The cereal collected (June 2-Hune 9) will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and distributed to over 500 food pantries throughout Southeastern Michigan.

Kroger has played a role in this by donating an entire semi truck filled with gallons of milk . This went along with a semi truck load of cereal donated by Kellogg's of Battle Creek.

Kroger customers can still help by buying and donating a box of cereal at the Kroger store on East Twelve Mile Rd. just west of John R.

The DMC says Cereal and Cash Donations made after June 9th will be accepted by Gleaners Food Bank until June 12. To provide a monetary donation, please visit: http://www.gcfb.org/event_2017_cerealdrive
