DETROIT (WXYZ) — To honor Kwanzaa, the annual celebration of African American culture, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit will be streaming events online from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1.

Each day, one of the seven principals of Kwanzaa is celebrated. Those principals are Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani.

There will be songs, dances, storytelling, poetry reading, and more, and the celebrations will begin each night at 7 p.m. Guests can log on to thewright.org to watch the festivities.

“We are so honored and excited to continue our tradition of hosting Kwanzaa with our partners for the community, especially in the midst of a pandemic that’s already taken so much away,” says Wright Museum Educator and Kwanzaa Dir. Yolanda Jack.
