DETROIT (WXYZ) — On the heels of a disturbing video showing what appears to be celebratory gun fire, Detroit Police Chief James Criag spoke about the video of celebratory gunfire and 2019 crime statistics in the city.

Chief Craig will release crime stat numbers and discuss what these numbers mean for the city today at noon.

He is also expected to speak about the dangers of celebratory gun fire.

Video making rounds on social media showing apparent celebratory gun fire is shocking to watch.

“My heart dropped. When I seen these teenagers outside, shooting guns all in the air. Just running around shooting," said Detroit resident Ortagus Jackson.

7 Action News is blurring the people in the video since no one has been charged.

It’s unclear where in metro Detroit this video was recorded. But Detroit police say they are aware of the video and looking into it.

7 Action News spoke to a man, who says he heard shooting on New Year’s Eve on the city’s east side. He asked that we conceal his identity.

He says he heard what sounded like 300 gun shots

"It's too scary. People fire off guns that willingly in the neighborhood. That’s just crazy," he said. "They're aiming in the sky but that bullet's gotta come down."

Unrelated to this case, Detroit police say they are investigating several shootings around the city between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

7 Action News plans to stream Chief Craig's media conference today at noon on Facebook and WXYZ.com.
