Detroit Police Chief James Craig is planning to speak about his support for the Minneapolis police chief in a press conference Thursday.

Craig said he supports the "swift and courageous action" made by Chief Medaria Arrandondo on firing the four officers involved in the death of George Floyd.

Craig was joined by Dr. Rev. Wendell Anthony, the president of the Detroit chapter of the NAACP, Negus Vu from The Peoples action and Detroit Community Organizer Teferi Brent.

People around the world are calling for justice in the Floyd case after a 10-minute video of the altercation circulated online. The video shot by a bystander shows Officer Derek Chauvin pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck while the man gasped for breath with his face against the pavement.

Chauvin and three other officers have been fired from the Minneapolis Police Department, but many, including Mayor Jacob Frey, are calling for charges to be filed in the case.
