A church in Hazel Park is thinking twice when it comes to safety.

First Baptist Church of Hazel Park says they’re praying for those affected by the Texas church tragedy.

Sunday Pastor Stephen Clark says members asked that the church doors be locked during service.

Clark says the church is looking at better security options.

“This morning we may have had 75 people and I can't imagine half of those people being taken because of some random gunman so we need to protect ourselves for sure,” Clark says.

Church members say, while they feel safe in the church, they agree.

“As a church I believe we need to be aware of what's going on and maybe be allowed to protect ourselves from this happening anywhere else,” says member Brian Erzbischof.

Clark says the church will continue to pray for the Sutherland Springs community and will reach out to them to see if there’s anything else they can do to help.
