CITY OF MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) — UPDATE: The boil water advisory has been lifted for City of Monroe residents.

"It is no longer necessary to use boiled or bottled water for drinking or cooking," the city wrote in a release.

While the water is now safe to consume, residents are encouraged to flush their home's plumbing by running each cold water tap for 60 to 90 seconds. Then run hot water taps for 5 minutes.

On October 14, 2019 notification was issued of the need to boil all tap water used for drinking and cooking in the service area north of the River Raisin within the Raisinville, Exeter and London Townships and the Village of Maybee, approximately 2,000 customers. Corrective measures have been taken and no coliform bacteria have been detected in follow-up testing of the system’s water. The water is safe to drink.

A boil water advisory is now in effect for the City of Monroe.

The city's water system lost pressure around 8 p.m. Monday night due to a large water main break on North Raisinville Road.

The pressure drop could lead to bacterial contamination, officials say.

City leaders are urging people to boil water first before drinking it.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until testing is completed.
