There is an abundance of vacant housing in Detroit's neighborhoods and now the city wants to partner with the Detroit Housing Commission to buy up some of those unused homes.

In total, the proposal includes the Historic Lee Plaza apartments, Woodland Apartments and more than 100 single family homes.

The city says buying these properties would help eliminate blight, create redevelopment opportunity and strengthen several neighborhoods.

This deal would also put the Detroit Housing Commission on the path to become a high performing commission in 2018.

A press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m.
