(WXYZ) — Claire's is voluntarily recalling three cosmetic products that may have the presence of asbestos.

The FDA issued a safety alert on the makeup products a week ago, but Claire's initially took issue with the FDA's tests.

"The recent test results the FDA have shared with us show significant errors," the company said one week ago. "Specifically, the FDA test reports have mischaracterized fibers in the products as asbestos, in direct contradiction to established EPA and USP criterion for classifying asbestos fibers. Despite our efforts to discuss these issues with the FDA, they insisted on moving forward with their release."

Claire's said it was "disappointed that the FDA has taken this step, and we will continue to work with them to demonstrate the safety of our products."

However, Claire's issued the voluntary recall on March 12, saying they initiated it after the FDA's testing.

The products recalled are Claire's Eyeshadows, Claire's Compact Powder and Claire's Contour Palette.

The products are no longer sold in stores, but may still be in the homes of consumers. The SKUs/Lots being recalled are:

  • Claire's Eyeshadows, UPC #888711847165, SKU #84716, Lot No. 08/17
  • Claire's Compact Powder, UPC #888711839153, SKU #83915, Lot No. 07/15
  • Claire's Contour Palette, UPC #888711401947, SKU #40194, Lot No. 04/17

All three products were offered for sale between October 2016 and March 2019. Any customers who have purchased these products should discontinue use and return them to a Claire's store for a full refund.

The company is not aware of any adverse reactions, injuries or illness caused by the possible presence of asbestos in the recalled products.
