DETROIT (WXYZ) — City officials say they hope to have roads cleaned up before the start of the weekend following the Packard Plant bridge collapse late Wednesday afternoon.

The City of the Detroit released new information Thursday saying the pedestrian bridge is jointly-owned by the city and Arte Express, which is the company that owns the plant.

Officials told Action News the buildings attached to the bridge were last inspected in August of last year, but it is unclear when the bridge itself was last inspected.

“Responsibility for public health and safety ultimately falls with the city of Detroit," said city official Brian Farkas. "And so that’s work right now, looking at cost recovery options next week.”

The city says they are also looking to inspect other privately-owned bridges.

We reached out to the owner of the Packard Plant building for comment, but have not heard back yet.
