(WXYZ) — Heads up, drivers! Click It or Ticket patrols begin across Michigan on Monday and will continue through the rest of the month.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning said the seat belt enforcement campaign will run Nov. 9 through Nov. 29.
“Three out of four people ejected from a vehicle in a crash will die,” Michael L. Prince, OHSP director, said in a release. “Wearing a seat belt is the simplest thing you can do to reduce injuries and save lives. It’s the easiest decision you will ever make. Buckle up every trip, every time.”
Officers from local police departments, sheriff's offices and Michigan State Police will be conducting the enforcement during the three-week period, including the Thanksgiving holiday.
According to the OHSP, seat belt usage is around 94.4% in Michigan, above the national average of 90.7%.
Michigan law requires drivers, front-seat passengers and passengers 15 and younger in the back seat to be buckled up. The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $65.
