Detroit Police Commissioner Willie Burton is suing the city and DPD for wrongful arrest after he was arrested during a meeting last July.

Burton was taken away from the meeting in handcuffs after the Chair asked him to be removed when she said his time for comment was up.

The meeting was regarding DPD's use of facial recognition technology.

In the lawsuit, Burton said he was humiliated, injured and arrested in front of the public and on camera.

Burton said he suffered extreme emotional, financial and physical injuries that he still suffers from today.

"If this is how the police treat a duly elected Police Commissioner while the public is watching, one can only imagine the treatment the average citizen can expect to receive at the hands of Detroit Police when the cameras are not rolling," Burton said in a press release.
