After petitioning the court to revoke parole for a man convicted of first-degree murder in the late 1980s, a Michigan family is feeling relieved.

Matthew Makowski was set to be released on Oct. 2 after being convicted of the murder of Pietro Puma in Dearborn years ago.

Puma's family filled a court room on Friday, Sept. 28, to request that Judge Martha Snow deny Makowski's parole.

The stay was granted pending completion of additional paperwork.

Anthony Puma, the victim's brother, spoke out against Makowski's release in an interview with 7 Action news in September.

Makowski was sentenced to life in prison for Pietro's death.
