Westland Police have arrested one woman for stealing after a social media post aiming to find her goes viral.
Rachael Dabelstein, 22, was arrested Thursday morning after a tip led police to her. She was found in possession of multiple stolen items including an antique milk jug. Vincent Harvey and his wife own that milk jug, which has been in their family for more than 100 years. It was stolen from their home around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
“Went to check the mail and something was missing. It was gone,” Harvey said.
Harvey caught the thief on camera. He shared still shots of the video on Facebook which went viral with more than 23,000 shares.
“It spread like wildfire,” Harvey said. “I didn’t realize how much it went and how far it went out. I was shocked, surprised and thankful.”
A man who saw the post got in contact with Harvey after recognizing the woman. Police went to Dabelstein’s house and found the milk jug and other stolen items. Harvey hopes she will not do this to anyone again.
“You work for it. You don’t take it from others. A little upsetting but I hope she learns from this,” Harvey said.
